PTANs on Remittance and Use With IVR (GEN)
Posted March 25, 2008

Effective Tuesday, April 8, 2008, legacy identifiers or Provider Transaction Access Numbers (PTANs) will no longer be returned on paper or electronic remittance even if they were submitted on the claim. Only National Provider Identifiers (NPIs) will be returned on paper and electronic remittance. If you receive electronic remittance advice (ERA) and use vendor supported software, you may want to contact your vendor to ensure that your system can correctly receive ERAs containing NPIs only. Please call the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Help Desk at 866-528-8097 for assistance or additional information.

Also, when contacting the toll-free provider hotline (877-567-7173) the PTAN is required for Interactive Voice Response (IVR) Unit and customer service representative inquiries. Please have this readily available when calling.

You may also visit the "EDI" section of our Web site at www.umd.nycpic.com/emc.html for more information about how NPI impacts your electronic processing.
