Patient Height (GEN)
Posted November 1, 2007
Often in examining records, the patient's weight is properly recorded, however, the patient's height is not available. It is understandable that in an office chart this may be separately recorded, but it is often unavailable in reviewing charts, and is an important consideration in both a medical or a surgical circumstance. Generally, we assume that the patient's adult height is a constant, but it indeed is not and particularly more so in the Medicare population. Significant changes in height can occur related to problems such as osteoporosis. If a chart reviewer sees the patient's weight as 200 pounds, it is obvious that a height of 62 inches has significant medical and surgical concern as compared to a height of 74 inches. |
