Instructions for Downloading and Viewing a PDF
Posted June 9, 2005
To properly view a PDF file from the UMD Web site, we strongly recommended that you DOWNLOAD THE PDF TO YOUR COMPUTER FIRST, then open the PDF with Adobe® Reader®, RATHER THAN OPENING IT WITHIN YOUR WEB BROWSER. (If you don’t have Adobe Reader installed on your computer, you can download it free of charge from the Adobe Web site at www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html.)
It’s important that you follow these instructions when attempting to view a PDF from our Web site, otherwise, you may not be able view the PDF.
To download a PDF:
- RIGHT CLICK on the link for the PDF you wish to download. A menu will pop up on the screen. (Please do not left click on the link for the PDF you wish to view. If you left click on the PDF link, it is possible that the PDF will not display within your Web browser - you will see a blank page or you will receive an error message.)
- Choose “Save Link As...” or “Save Target As...”
- Choose the location on your computer where you would like to save the PDF. (Be sure to make a note of this location.)
- Click on “Save.”
To open the PDF you downloaded with the steps listed above:
Depending on your Web browser settings, there are two differnt ways to open the PDF you downloaded with the steps listed above.
Method 1
When the download process is complete, a "Download complete" window will pop up on the screen (see below). Click on "Open." This will launch your Adobe Acrobat software and open the PDF file you downloaded.
