Medicare Remit Easy Print (MREP) Software - EDI Services

Introduction and Download Information

Are you still using the Standard Paper Remittance (SPR)? Save TIME and MONEY by taking advantage of FREE Medicare Remit Easy Print (MREP) software now available for viewing and printing the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliant Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA)! The MREP software gives providers and suppliers the following abilities:

  • Easy navigation and viewing of the ERA using your personal computer.

  • Print the ERA in the Standard Paper Remittance (SPR) format.

  • Search capability that allows providers and suppliers the ability to find claims information easily.

  • Print and export reports from ERAs including adjusted service lines, Coordination of Benefits (COB)/Non-COB claims, deductible/coinsurance and denied service lines, and other adjustments.

  • Easy-to-use method for archiving, restoring, and deleting imported ERAs.
Providers and suppliers can view and print as many or as few claims as needed. This will be especially helpful when you need to print only one claim from the remittance advice when forwarding the claim to a secondary payer. This FREE software can save you time resolving Medicare claim issues. Take advantage of the MREP features unavailable with the SPR.

In order to utilize the MREP software, you must be receiving HIPAA compliant ERA files, and you must be able to download those files from our Medicare Electronic Gateway (MeG) using a modem and a telephone line. Cable modems and/or DSL lines are not compatible with the MeG system. Once you have your ERA files, you can import them into the MREP software. Furthermore, if you utilize a billing service or clearinghouse to submit your claim files, but want to retrieve your own ERA files, special arrangements may need to be made unless your billing service or clearinghouse is able to supply you with a HIPAA compliant ERA. Contact the EDI Help Desk at 866-528-8097 to find out more about MREP and/or for information on how to receive a HIPAA compliant ERA. See also the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) MREP brochure.

Go to the CMS Web site to download a copy of the MREP software. Take advantage of this new software. Begin using MREP today!

Medicare Remit Easy Print (MREP) Version 2.3

List of Improvements to be Implemented in October 2007

Change Summary

Third line of heading information not displaying correctly - Changes have been made to MREP to ensure that the third line of header information (Check/EFT #, Date, page # and the word "Notice") displays on all subsequent pages of a multiple page MREP Remittance Advice.

Appropriate sub-heading displayed when printing from Claim List tab - Changes have been made to MREP to ensure that the appropriate sub-heading is displayed when generating a print preview or print from the Claim List tab. When a print preview or print is performed from the Claim List tab, the subheading will contain "Claim List" inside of the square brackets.

REMEMBER: Regardless of what version of MREP you're using, always delete MREP before downloading an upgrade. Do this by clicking on Control Panel, and Add or Remove Programs. Once the list has populated, click on Medicare Remit Easy Print, then click on Remove. Now you are ready to download the most current version MREP.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, contact the EDI Helpdesk at 866-528-8097. One of our Specialists will be happy to help you.

MREP Update Regarding Stage 3 NPI/Remittance

Updates will be made to the MREP software to allow for the Stage 3 NPI changes that will impact the 835v4010A1 transactions, from which the MREP created.

The remittance advices that are generated (Preview and Print) from the Entire Remittance option and Claim Detail tab are being updated to accommodate changes.

CLAIM LINE LEVEL
MREP Remittance Advice had the ability to display the legacy number and/or the NPI value at the claim line level. With the implementation of CR5452, the Rendering Provider field at the claim line level will only contain NPI. MREP Remittance Advice will be as follows below.

Example #3:

Rendering provider field contains only NPI.
  • The various reports that are generated from the MREP application will continue to display the information as it does today as it relates NPI.

  • The Search Tab will continue to allow the user the ability to search for NPI values as it does today.

MREP Update Regarding Stage 2 NPI

The following updates were made to the Medicare Remit Easy Print (MREP) software to allow for the Stage 2 National Provider Identifier (NPI) changes that impact the 835v4010A1 transactions.
  1. The MREP Remittance Advice printout and Claim Detail layouts were updated to accommodate the new NPI field. Also, new field, SUB NOS:, was added to help distinguish between the paid and submitted units of service when they are different for a particular service line.
MREP Remittance Advice - New NPI and SUB NOS Fields
  1. The Search Tab was updated so that the user has the capability to search on the Rendering NPI value.

  2. The Adjusted Service Line(s), Deductible/Co-Insurance Service Line(s) and Denied Service Line(s) Reports that are generated from the Report button or the Search Tab will either display the Rendering NPI or the Rendering Provider Number. If the NPI is present, that value will display. Otherwise, the Rendering Provider Number will display. The heading will be modified.

  3. The COB Claims Report does not display the Rendering Provider Number, so this report will not be updated for NPI purposes.
